Wind Rock Park is 72,000 acres and boasts over 300 miles of trails that can accommodate all types of vehicles. Wind Rock is the largest privately owned OHV park in the United States. With on-site primitive camping, full RV hook-ups, and fully furnished cabins. This truly is a destination not just a playground for the off road adventure. Wind Rock is located in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains. From the peaks of Wind Rock you can clearly see The Great Smoky Mountains, which is only an hour and a half drive. Wind Rock hosts over 20 events a year.
Each person entering WindRock Park regardless of age or activity, must have a Land Use Permit - per Wind Rock Park. Please note: For Non-WindRock Annual Permit Holders, a 3 Day Permit is not included with your Appalachian Toyota Round-Up Registration. Safety EquipmentProper safety equipment must be worn at all times.It is up to the rider to choose and provide thier own safety equipment. A common questions asked is “are helmets required?” The answer is YES if you are under 18 years of age. If you are 18 or older WindRock Park recommends all users wear helmets. Due to the mountainous terrain, helmets, heavy duty boots and clothing are highly recommended.

Property Rules & RegulationsThe following rules and regulations must befollowed by all visitors to WindRock Park:1. Release forms must be signed by all persons entering the WindRock Park Trail System and a *COPY OF THIS FORM MUST BE IN POSSESSION OF THE PERSON AT ALL TIMES*
2. A LAND USE PERMIT must be displayed on the vehicle in a clearly visible area. 3. Maintain a 5mph limit in all staging/parking areas. Mandatory speed limit of 10 mph of Trail P-1 (paved access road). 4. Travel is limited to marked trails. No hill climbing except on marked trails. 5. Stay away from all reclaimed mined areas, active mining areas, logging operations and gas/oil facilities. 6. DO NOT LITTER ON THE PROPERTY. Violators will be barred from the property. 7. Tires with studs are not allowed. 8. Firing of weapons is strictly prohibited. NO TARGET PRACTICE! 9. Be considerate of others using the trails and report any unauthorized or illegal behavior observed. 10. NO ALCOHOL, fireworks, or open fires on the trail system. 11. The harvesting of Ginseng, cutting of firewood or other collection of fieldstone or any other product is NOT allowed without an additional permit. 12. Streams and stream beds will be avoided where possible. Should any water crossing be necessary, the permittee will make such crossing only on or over marked trails, strictly complying with the posted rules and regulations and avoiding creation of any erosion or stream bed sediment.ALCOHOL, fireworks, or open fires on the trail system. |
Windmill Viewing
One of the most visited attractions at WindRock Park is the Buffalo Mountain Wind Farm which is comprised of 18 windmills. The windmills are captivating, not to mention the view is breathtaking. The 15 largest windmills have a 256 foot tower with 139 foot blades and span 395 feet. Permits for vehicles going to view the windmills are available at the General Store (your ATR registration or WindRock Annual Permit allows access to view the windmills). For safety reasons, the permit only allows access up to the “US Government Restricted Area” gate. There is no admittance beyond this gate. Looking for even more adrenaline pumping fun? Bring a mountain bike and check out WindRock Park’s newest edition. This is not for the faint of heart, trails are rated difficult to extreme and geared toward expert riders. 550 acres and 9 trails to choose from including a 2150’ drop.There is shuttle service available and the cost can vary, be sure to call WindRock Park and confirm prices for shuttle and entry. WindRock Park is a proud supporter of Windrock Shooting Range, the premier outdoor shooting range located just a short distance from the Trailhead. WindRock Shooting Range offers four outdoor shooting ranges, firearm rentals to include fully automatic firearms, training programs and a full-time on-site NRA Certified Range Safety Officer. As a member of Norsemen Training & Consulting Group, WindRock Shooting Range is able to provide top-notch professional firearms training, courses and seminars, private lessons, group team building and functions. The range prides itself in being a locally owned business of shooting professionals and enthusiasts, and is not state funded or owned. WindRock Nature TrailAnother great addition to your stay during The Appalachian Toyota Round-Up is the WindRock Park Nature Trail. Take in all the sights and sounds of the mountains by foot or mountain bike. This is a dedicated 1.9 mile loop.The Nature Trail is the latest addition to Windrock Park. This trail allows guests to take a stroll through the woods and around to the pond and picnic area. It is open to hikers and mountain bikers.Beginning at the fire hydrant along Windrock Park Lane, the Nature Trail goes into the woods and turns left along the contour. The trail follows the lower slopes of the ridge, with a few gradual uphill slopes, continuing down the ridge until it intersects with the gravel road that leads to the bridge and around the pond. The trail continues as a loop around the pond to the picnic area. From the picnic area, the gravel road provides an easy hike back to the campground or heads back up the trail for a more difficult climb.Blue trail signs mark the route!
